01 What is a Certificate of Conformity?
A Certificate of Conformity, commonly called a COC, is a vehicle-specific document issued by the manufacturer. It confirms that the vehicle matches an approved European type and records details such as the VIN, emissions, weights, dimensions and type-approval number.
02 Do I need a COC to register an imported vehicle?
A COC is commonly requested when a vehicle is moved from one European country to another, but registration requirements differ by country and vehicle. Your local registration authority can confirm exactly which documents it requires.
03 Can availability be checked using only the VIN?
In most cases, yes. Send the complete 17-character VIN and select the vehicle brand. We use those details to review COC eligibility, estimated price and processing time. If another document is needed, we will tell you before you continue.
04 Is every vehicle eligible for a European COC?
No. Eligibility usually depends on the vehicle having a European type approval and being produced for the European market. Vehicles built for another market may require a different technical document or an individual approval.
05 How much does a Certificate of Conformity cost?
The price depends on the brand, model, age and original market of the vehicle. The amount shown on a brand card is an estimate; the applicable price is confirmed after the VIN review and before you complete the request.
06 How long will the process take?
Processing time varies by manufacturer and vehicle. The time shown on each brand card is an estimate. We confirm the expected timeframe after reviewing the VIN; delivery time begins once the document has been issued.
07 Is a replacement or duplicate COC valid?
A replacement COC issued by the manufacturer or its authorised representative can be used as an official vehicle-specific document. It may be marked “duplicate” or “copy” because the first certificate was issued with the new vehicle.
08 Can I get a COC for a vehicle from outside Europe?
A vehicle built for the US, Canada, Japan or another non-EU market often does not have European type approval, so a European COC may not be available. Submit the VIN first and check with your registration authority about alternative approval documents.
